Become a Tutor
Thank you for your interest in
tutoring an adult in our community. We appreciate your
desire to improve an adult's literacy skills and lay the
foundation for independent learning.
Our agency provides all the
training and materials necessary for you to begin your
tutoring experience. We will train
volunteers to tutor adults in basic reading, writing and
spelling. No previous teaching experience is
necessary; however, we do require a commitment to assist
other adults to become more knowledgeable in the English
language. Tutors receive an easy-to-use handbook that gives practical tips to working
with an adult learner so that both participants can learn new
skills.
After tutors are trained, they
are paired with a student who has been tested and is currently
waiting on our Students Waiting
List. Generally, our tutors meet with their students
twice a week for 1 1/2 hours per session at a location of
their choice and at a time convenient for both. Even
though this only requires three hours of teaching a week, it
has proven to be a very successful formula.
Registration is required. A donation of $12.00 is
requested to cover the costs of training and provide lunch to
participants. To register training, please complete
the form below or call today.
If you have any questions
